Climb you monkey, climb!
Coach had me rolling high today. Training is based out of Boulder this weekend, and with an abundance of dirt roads on the west side of town, it was easy to go out and get in the climbing work out I needed to. The plan was simple. Get in some long gradual sustain climbs for 4 hours in a heart rate between 139 & 160 bpm. The pictures tell it all. The sun is having a hard time getting into the canyons, so Friday's light snow is still sticking around on the lesser traveled roads.
The town of Gold Hill was the center of my figure-8 loop today. Here is the route I opted to pedal out today.
I pedaled further west towards the Continental Divide after Gold Hill. Next T-intersection would be the Peak-to-Peak Hwy.
The ride from Peak-to-Peak was a series of gentle rollers. After I reached Ward, CO, I descended down towards Boulder until I hit the evil Lickskillet Rd. This took me back up to Gold Hill. The road was stupid steep. So steep in fact that earlier car travelers lost traction going up. Just look at the wheel marks behind me.
Lickskillet Rd is a damn good grind. Can you hear the muscle fibers straining? I hit this at about 3 hours into my 4 hour ride.....and I used every gear I had. Ughhhhhhhh...
After I reached Gold Hill for a 2nd time I kept climbing up Sunshine Canyon.....and then dropped towards Boulder to Poorman Rd.....then 4 Mile Canyon Rd. The Suunto T6 picked up everything today.
What better way to finish up a ride than with a little Hapa sushi! YES!!!Sunday is another 4 hours. This time on the road bike with Jason Hilimire in tow....or vice-versa.
