• To be beef or not to be beef?

    That is the question....
I have received some comments regarding the weight of race bikes. For me weight is not a huge deal. As long as the bike is sub 27-28 lbs I am happy. For the past 3 years I have ridden everything from full XTR grouppo to SRAM X-9, CossMax SL wheels to plain-jane XT hubs laced to Mavic rims, etc. All of these have worked fine and I have never had problems during races. The reason I am more favorable towards the "beef" is because of the durability factor. If you want to make it through a 24 hour event on the same bike, you need durability......not bling-bling light weight XC parts. One item that I run that I don't worry about weight is the chain. This one little item can make or brake your race. I run the lowest end SRAM mtb 9 sp chain instead of there high end "shaved link" chain. The bike still shifts fine, and have had no problems what so ever. So that is my 2 cents worth.......hence the reason I am eyeing the Trance vs. the NRS.

    On another note.......
Congrats to minnesota super freak endurance racer Scott Cave and family on the birth of a baby boy........yet another "to be" super freak 24 hour racer. Visit his blog and send him and his wife well-wishes.
